Arkwright's wrap-reel winding wheel, 1769-1775.

Original wrap-reel or winding wheel used at Sir Richard Arkwright's mill and probably made by John Kay. Through a series of gears an analogue counter indicates the number of turns of the winder, hence the length of the warp. If weighed then the thickness of the yarn can be calculated. This reel measures the hanks in 840 yards.
