Photograph by Roger Fenton (1819-1869) of cannon-balls in the aftermath of battle. The title is taken from the Twenty-third Psalm of the Bible which begins 'The Lord is my shepherd'. British poet Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892) evoked the theme in his poem 'Charge of the Light Brigade', with the line: 'Into the valley of Death rode the six hundred'.
