Description

Xie was the daughter of the Reverend George William Kitchin, Dean of Winchester and later of Durham. She was also Queen Alexandra's god-daughter and the wife of Arthur Cardrew. Photographer Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) was the author of the classic children's book 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' (1865). He began taking photographs in 1856 and was notable for his ability to p[roduce far less stilted and artificial portraits, especially of children, than those taken by the vast numbers of professional portraitists of the time.
