Description

Xie was the daughter of the Reverend George William Kitchin, Dean of Winchester and later of Durham. She is standing in costume, wearing lace gloves, a white cap with a dark ribbon and holding a fan. Photograph by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) who was the author of the classic children's book 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' (1865). He began taking photographs in the 1850s and enjoyed posing his young female sitters in elaborate costumes some of which he borrowed from the Ashmoleum Museum in Oxford.
