The London & North Western Railway's Royal Train, pulled by a 2-4-2 locomotive. There has been a royal train since the coming of the railways, and Queen Victoria preferred to travel by train, finding it more comfortable than a stage coach. However, she did not like travelling at more than 40 miles per hour. When King Edward VII acceded to the throne in 1901 he asked to travel at faster speeds.
