Description

Workers in the forge at Doncaster carriage works. This area is where iron was heated and struck, to be put into the right shape. At this time there were few health and safety measures in place. Workers wore little protective clothing. They also risked breathing in dangerous chemicals when smelting metal as there was little ventilation.
