Workers making wagons at Doncaster carriage and wagon works. At this time wagons were made from wood. The parts for the wagons are laid out in the foreground. Doncaster works, known as the 'Plant Works' opened in 1853, making and repairing locomotives and rolling stock for the Great Northern Railway. At this time the works employed around 3500 workers.
