Workers in Doncaster carriage works wheelwright's shop. This was where the wheels for carriages were made. The wheels have been made with a mould and turned to smooth off the rims. They were then fitted to the carriages. Doncaster works, known as the 'Plant Works' opened in 1853, making and repairing locomotives and rolling stock for the Great Northern Railway. At this time the works employed around 3500 workers.
