Description

Undated medal commemorating the balloon ascent of Jean-Pierre Blanchard (1753-1809) at Nuremberg, Germany, on 12 November 1787. The design shows Blanchard in his balloon, waving a flag above a cityscape of Nuremberg. The Latin inscription: 'Gallia saepius plausit. Iam Germania Plau' translates as 'France has applauded often - Now let Germany applaud'.
