'Record No 6' fore plane, 1950s.

Plane with blue painted steel and selected rosewood handle and knob. Smaller versions of this plane, known as jack or smooth planes, cornered the school and tecnical college workshop market. Craftsmen's hand-tools from the middle of the 20th century look little different from the same tools used 100 years earlier. They continued to be used by the professional trades, as well as serious amateurs who may have acquired some technical training or workshop practice.
