Description

Etching by George Sala taken from the 'Great Exhibition 'Wot is to Be', a satirical look at the forthcoming Great Exhibition of 1851. The hardware manufacturers include 'Mr Brotherton [who] will send the model of an extinguisher for putting out the House of Commons at midnight', 'the famous Don Pacifico of Athens [who] will follow with a magnifying glass capable of making a broken tea cup looks like £30,000' and 'Mr Disraeli [who] will exhibit a specimen of his idea of a Hebrew Caucasian Gentleman'.
