Etching by George Sala taken from the 'Great Exhibition 'Wot is to Be', a satirical look at the forthcoming Great Exhibition of 1851. Representing the arts and manufacture of the Americans is the American flag, the American eagle, a man with a giant spitoon on his head and a picture of a slave being whipped, with the caption - 'a black nigger, not at all glorious, cursing his stars for having so many stripes'.
