Description

Lithograph by Weiluc of Farman (1878-1964) pioneer aviator and aircraft manufacturer. Farman and his brother Henri won a prize for a circular flight of one kilometre. They opened a factory at Boulogne-sur-Seine in 1912 and started manufacturing the Farman biplane. In 1917 they built the first long-distance passenger plane, the 'Goliath'. The brothers were the first to use the aileron, a mechanism to control the longitudinal roll of an aircraft. These are now standard fittings on all aircraft.
