Description

Photograph of Joseph Crampton, brother of Thomas Russell Crampton (1816-1888). Thomas Russell Crampton was a pioneer of locomotive construction and was responsible for the first successful cross-channel submarine cable, between Dover and Calais, in 1851. He built the Berlin waterworks in 1855 and many railway systems.
