Description

A 'Teutonic' class 2-4-0 locomotive number 1304 'Jeanie Deans' with a passenger train at Boxmoor, Hertfordshire, en route from London to Glasgow. This LNWR (London & North Western Railway) owned locomotive was used for many years to haul the afternoon train on the 400-mile journey on the West Coast Main Line. Jeanie Deans was a character in 'The 'Heart of Midlothian' by Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832). From the Crewe Collection of silver gelatin glass negatives, featuring locomotives, workshops, personalities and events of the LNWR and the London Midland & Scottish Railway, from 1875 to 1933.
