Photograph of a barn thought to have been used for the assembly of Herschel's great 40 foot telescope, in the village of Upton near Slough known as the Telescope Barn which was demolished in 1924. Sir William Herschel (1738-1822). English astronomer, mathematician and chemist, built a 40 foot telescope which was constructed in the grounds of his home in Slough, and completed in 1789.
