Celestial map made under the supervision Knut Lunkmark (1889-1958) of the Lund Observatory, Sweden during the 1930s. It shows the stars plotted with respect to our galaxy, the Milky Way. The star chart shows the sky in a distorted oval upon which seven thousand stars have been drawn by hand as white dots, their size indicating brightness. The plane of the galaxy is shown along the breath of the chart while the north galactic pole is at the top.
