Sheet music cover published by Wests. The music, composed by Max Darewski with words by Philip Seeley, is 'Tramping along to a Little Tin Whistle and Old Toy Drum', commemorating the rallying of exhausted British troops by Major Tom Bridges on the retreat from Mons in the early days of the First World War in August 1914. The area around Ypres in Belgium saw some of the fiercest fighting involving British and Empire troops on the Western Front. Four major battles were fought in the area between 1914 and 1918, with appalling casualties. The Ypres League was founded in 1920 for veterans of the conflict.
