The Grand Junction Railway (GJR) was incorporated in 1833. This hand painted device dates from 1845-1846, the final year of the company's existence and incorporates four quarters representing, clockwise, Liverpool (the Liver bird); Manchester; Birmingham and Chester all cities served by the railway. The GJR amalgamated with the London & Birmingham Railway and the Manchester & Birmingham Railway in 1846 to form the London & North Western Railway.
