Plan of the aircraft in which Orville Wright (1871-1948) and Wilbur Wright (1867-1912) made the world's first controlled and powered flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, on 17th December 1903. The brothers developed a flying machine and learned to fly over several years using gliders before fitting an engine. The original Wright Flyer was placed in the Science Museum, London, by Orville Wright in 1928, but was returned to the United States in 1948.
