'The Back-to-school boast of these two boys will be: "We played football with Jock Stein of Celtic." When the turf of Parkhead was exchanged by the Celts for a fine stretch of beach between Seamill and Saltcoats, the training programme appealed to a host of schoolboys and soon the 'quiet beach' had a cup final crowd.' Jock Stein (1922-1985), Scottish footballer and manager, managed Celtic to great success between 1965-1978. Under his direction the Scottish national side qualified for the 1982 World Cup.
