Photograph by Lynn Patrick of the High Speed Train in Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) livery at Montrose Station, heading north to Aberdeen. The HST is probably the most significant train British Rail ever produced. Introduced on the East Coast Main Line in 1978, it slashed journey times and delivered new levels of comfort. Great North Eastern Railway plans to run HSTs for at least another ten years.
