Photograph of Byrd (1888-1957) taken during United States Antarctic expedition. Byrd travelled to both the North and South Poles. On 9 May 1926, he flew with Floyd Bennett in a Fokker trimotor aeroplane from Spitzbergen in Norway to the North Pole, a round trip of 16 hours.
