Description
Spring safety valve, c 1830. This design of safety valve is attributed to Timothy Hackworth, who used one on his 'Royal George' locomotive in 1828. A number of superimposed semi-elliptic plate springs, guided by two pillars, bear on the valve, and are pressed down by a crosshead and two adjustable screws housed in the pillars.
