Scottish television pioneer Baird (1888-1946) is shown here with his newly-invented transmitting station. 'This is a means by which 'objects can be wirelessed without the aid of photographs, on the same principle that sound is now transmitted by wireless'. The BBC's public television service began on 22 August, 1932.
