© NRM / Pictorial Collection / Science & Society Picture Library
Poster produced for British Railways (BR) to promote rail travel to Warwick Castle, Warwickshire. The castle was founded in 1086 and was home to the Earls of Warwick, who played key roles in the Wars of the Roses and the Hundred Years War with France. King Richard III (1452-1485) once owned the Castle and started new fortifications before his death at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. Later, the castle was a Parliamentarian stronghold during the English Civil War. Artwork by Bagley.
