Description

'Jewish illegal immigrants arrive at Poppendorf by train from Hamburg'. In the aftermath of the Second World War, Jewish DPs (displaced persons) attempted to get to Palestine which they saw as their homeland. They were taken instead to Poppendorf DP camp. Here, British soldiers meet them off the train.
