Description
'The Tragedy of Tiberias (a burned out synangogue).' Tiberias is a town on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, (Israel). At the time of this photograph by Zvi Orushkes (Oron), it was part of Palestine. The British Mandate for Palestine, created after the First World War and approved by the League of Nations, was international recognition for the stated purpose of 'establishing in Palestine a national home for the Jewish people'.
