'British armoured car destroyed by Arabs, Hebron.' The fire-damaged Barclays Bank Dominion Colonial and Overseas building. The British Mandate for Palestine, created after the First World War and approved by the League of Nations, was international recognition for the stated purpose of 'establishing in Palestine a national home for the Jewish people'.
