An artist's concept shows the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter going into orbit around the Red Planet. The MRO launched in August 2005 and arrived at Mars in March 2006. It carried the most powerful telescopic camera ever flown to another planet and the images it sent back show Martian landscape features as small as a kitchen table.
