A Russian Soyuz spacecraft blasts off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Thursday, April 14, en route to the International Space Station with a crew of three on board. The Expedition 11 crew - Sergei Krikalev and John Phillips - spent six months in space and greeted the first Shuttle crew to fly in more than two years. European Space Agency astronaut Roberto Vittori spent eight days on the Station and returned with Expedition 10 astronauts Leroy Chiao and Salizhan Sharipov.
