Albumen print of 'Valley of the Nile. The Vocal Memnon and its fellow at Early dawn - when the sun first strikes the statues they are declared to issue a song in his praise - and are hence called 'vocal'. A sound certainly does issue from one under the circumstances named - I heard it. Note their size - height between 60 and 70 feet. The camel standing by the pediment was eight feet high.'
