Albumen print of the doorway of the Convent of San Geronimo Lisbon. This is possibly the first photograph ever taken in Portugal. 'Photography, or as it was sometimes called, 'Heliography', had never been heard of there. A market was being held around the Convent at the time I took it, and a mob soon collected around me, and would have been dangerous had I not been well guarded by members of the crew whom I had taken with me, in anticipation of some such difficulty.' Dimensions 15.0 x 11.1cm.
