Description

Photographs from the albums of photographer and archaeologist Colonel E R Wood (1819-1876), which were assembled in 1868. Wood (bottom left) excavated the remains of rhinoceros and cave bear from the Pleistocene (Ice Age) in caves on the Gower Peninsula between 1849 and 1866. The Princess of Wales and her sister are shown top right, and Princess Beatrice at bottom right.
