Protesters including Buddhist monks on the Aldermaston-Faslane 500-mile march against nuclear weapons. The Royal Navy Clyde Submarine Base at Faslane in Scotland formerly housed Polaris inter-continental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) which carried nuclear warheads. These were replaced by Trident ICBMs. Also kept here are the submarines from which the missiles are launched, as well as other nuclear-powered attack submarines, known as 'hunter killers'. US Trident submarines also visit Faslane, and anti-nuclear protestors regularly hold demonstrations there.
