British boxer Hope (born 1951) pictured with his wife Pat, was originally from Antigua. He made his professional boxing debut in 1973 and won the British Junior Middleweight title the following year. In 1976 Hope beat Tony Poole for the British Commonwealth Jr. Middleweight title and that same year he also won the European Boxing Union's Jr. Middlewight title. After winning three regional titles, Hope won his first WBC World title in 1979 against Rocky Mattioli on his second try. he defended his title successfully three times before losing his crown to Wilfred Benitez at Ceasar's Palace.
