Description

'Police confront demonstrators outside Hazel Grove Conservative Club.' Margaret Thatcher (b 1925) became Britain's first female prime minister (1979-1990). Opponents criticised her close relationship with American president Ronald Reagan and the siting of nuclear cruise missiles in Britain under her leadership, her war against Argentina over the Falkland Islands, and the introduction of the poll tax. These students hold up Socialist Worker placards calling for 'Thatcher Out'.
