Description

Furness Railway locomotive 4-4-0 no.22 built by Sharp Stewart no. 4175, 1896. Renumbered 33 in 1896, 45 in 1910, LMS 10138. Withdrawn 1928. This engine was used as a model for the 'Edward' character in the 'Thomas the Tank Engine' series of children's books written by Reverend W Awdry. The books were later adapted into a successful television series narrated by former Beatles' drummer Ringo Starr. Photograph by Patrick Ransome-Wallis.
