Virginia Wade (born 1945) flat out on the court at the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championship. The highlight of Wade's career was winning the Wimbledon women' singles final in 1977. This was a significant year as it was Queen Elizabeth II silver jubilee but also the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Championships. During her career Wade won three Grand Slam singles titles and five doubles titles with tennis partner Margaret Court. In 1989 Wade was entered into the Inthernational Tennis Hall of Fame. Since retiring she has become a tennis commentator for the BBC.
