Platinum print photograph by Frederick Hollyer (1837-1933) of British soldier and Indian administrator Sir Richard Strachey (1817-1908). Strachey was a member of the council of the secretary of state for India from 1875 to 1889, when he resigned his seat in order to accept the post of chairman of the East Indian Railway Company. From 1888 to 1890 he was president of the Royal Geographical Society. He had thirteen children, including the writer Lytton Strachey (1880-1932).
