Description

Photomicrograph of the skin and spiracle of a processionary caterpillar, by Auguste-Adolphe Bertsch (died 1871), an innovator in the field. In 1852 Bertsch introduced the mechanical shutter and in 1860 he announced a miniature portable camera and a 'megascope enlarger'.
