North Eastern Railway buses at Beeford, East Yorkshire, 1903. Much of East Yorkshire did not have railway access, although it was an important agricultural area. The North Eastern Railway set up a bus service in this area to connect towns such as Beverley, Bridlington and Driffield. The service between Beeford and Beverley began in 1903. The 14-mile journey took nearly 2 hours due to the poor quality roads.
