A freight train, hauled by a class 5 4-6-0 locomotive number 45287 at Shap summit, by Eric Treacy, about 1955. Treacy loved taking holidays in the Lake District and Shap was one of his favourite locations to photograph locomotives, with the Howgill fells in the background. The line, which connects Euston and Glasgow, climbs up to over 300 metres at Shap.
