Railway van by Selwyn Pearce-Higgins. This wagon appears to be being used as a small shed. There was a large quantity of railway locomotives and rolling stock that had been scrapped at this time. Steam locomotives were withdrawn from British Railways in 1968. Most were scrapped, but some were kept to run on preserved railways, or to be put into museums. Other pieces of equipment, like this box van, were 'recycled' as storage. These were generally known as a 'grounded bodies', having had the wheels and 'W-irons' (or springs) removed.
