Post Office railcar number 47777 on the East Coast Main Line at York, by Chris Hogg, July 1994. This locomotive has been restored. Post Office trains had been used since the coming of the railways. The letters were often sorted in the train and dropped off at their destination. However, Post Office trains were withdrawn on 10 January 2004, due to a decline in the numbers of services required.
