Former railway clearing house, Euston, by Chris Hogg, 9 September 1992. The railway clearing house system was set up to settle squabbles between companies. Competition between the railway companies was fierce and they were often hostile to one another, especially if they felt that their territory was being encroached upon. Railway companies came to the clearing house to settle financial accounts, and conduct business deals with each other.
