Mount Pleasant Post Office tube station, by Chris Hogg, 1997. This railway line carried mail from Paddington station to Whitechapel, via the Mount Pleasant sorting office. The work began in 1914 but was delayed during the war. During this time works of art were stored in the tunnels! The tube opened in 1927. The tunnels were smaller and narrower than normal tube tunnels, and the trains ran along a 2' gauge track. The trains had no drivers and were operated from stations.
