Horse-drawn tram by Patrick Ransome-Wallis, 1950. Trams were first used in Britain in the 1850s in Liverpool. Early trams were pulled by horses although some trams were steam driven. By the 1880s electric tramways were being developed and by the First World War all large towns and cities had tram systems. This was the last horse-drawn tram in Ireland, and it was used until 1957.
