Workers around locomotive number 84, about 1900. This locomotive was manufactured at Bow works. The workers at Bow works usually started work at age 13 or 14 and were apprentices for around 7 years. They learned quickly, making complicated equipment early on in the apprenticeship. They worked long days, from 6 am to 4 pm with breakfast and lunch breaks.
