The station is decorated to celebrate the opening of the Blackwall Tunnel, and the Prince of Wales came to open it. The Blackwall tunnel was at this time the longest underwater tunnel in the world. It took 6 years to build and over 600 people had to be moved out of their houses as many streets around the tunnel had to be demolished.
